Introduction: This assignment requires the students to use six criteria from the assigned readings to select a theory appropriate for a practice/clinical setting of their choice. The selected theory must be well-suited to the chosen setting, and the students must explain how the six criteria helped them in their selection. Additionally, the students must include at least two sources and create their assignment in one of the provided formats.

Answer:

The clinical setting that I have chosen for this assignment is a cardiac rehabilitation center. The six criteria that I used to select the theory appropriate for this setting are as follows:

1. Clinical setting: I considered the clinical setting where the theory would be applied. A cardiac rehabilitation center is a clinical setting that helps patients recover from heart surgery and other cardiac-related illnesses.

2. Origin of the theory: I looked into the origin of the theory to ensure that it had a sound foundation in nursing practice. The theory I have selected is the Self-efficacy theory, which was developed by Albert Bandura, a well-known psychologist.

3. Paradigms as a basis for choice: I considered the paradigms that were used to develop the theory. The self-efficacy theory is based on a social cognitive approach and is influenced by behavioral, cognitive, and humanistic paradigms.

4. Simplicity: The theory I have selected is easy to understand and apply. It can be used by healthcare professionals who have varying levels of experience and knowledge.

5. Patient’s needs: I considered the needs of the patients in my chosen clinical setting. Patients in a cardiac rehabilitation center need to be motivated to participate in their recovery. Self-efficacy theory can help patients develop a positive attitude towards their recovery.

6. Understandability: The self-efficacy theory is easy for patients to understand as it revolves around the concept of confidence in one’s ability to achieve a goal.

Based on these criteria, I have selected the Self-efficacy theory to be applied in the cardiac rehabilitation center. This theory is well-suited for this setting as it focuses on motivating patients to take an active role in their recovery. The theory posits that individuals who have a high level of self-efficacy are more likely to take part in activities that can lead to better health outcomes. Since patients in a cardiac rehabilitation center need to make significant lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, to improve their health outcomes, the self-efficacy theory would be an appropriate choice.

In conclusion, the self-efficacy theory is well-suited for the cardiac rehabilitation center setting. Its development is grounded in sound paradigms, is easy to understand, and focuses on patient needs. Therefore, the self-efficacy theory would be an appropriate choice for healthcare professionals working in cardiac rehabilitation centers.
