Introduction:
This assignment is designed for medical college students and focuses on strategic planning in health. The students are required to watch informative videos, explore community health centers in their area and research a health problem in the world. In this answer, we will discuss the significance and goals of the external environment in today’s healthcare environment.

Answer:
The external environment plays a critical role in shaping the healthcare industry. It refers to factors outside the healthcare system that influence and impact its operations. The goals of understanding the external environment include identifying opportunities, minimizing threats, and improving the overall performance of the healthcare system.

One of the significant goals of understanding the external environment is to identify opportunities. An analysis of the external environment reveals the trends, legislation, and policy changes that can create opportunities for healthcare providers. For instance, changes in health legislation, such as the Affordable Care Act, created new opportunities for healthcare providers by increasing the number of people eligible for healthcare insurance.

Another goal of understanding the external environment is to minimize threats. The healthcare industry faces several threats from external forces, such as changes in demographic trends, economic instability, and changing patient preferences. By analyzing the external environment, healthcare providers can develop strategies to minimize these threats and reduce the impact of any negative changes.

Ultimately, understanding the external environment is critical for improving the performance of the healthcare system. It helps healthcare providers to be proactive in responding to external changes and identifying opportunities that can improve performance and outcomes. By understanding the external environment, healthcare providers can make informed decisions that positively impact their organization and the communities they serve.
