HLT 490V GCU Elderly Adults Evidence Based Proposed Solution Evaluation Plan

The final capstone project is  a series of written research-based assignments completed throughout  this course that culminate in a final evidenced-Based Proposal paper and  presentation. Students are encouraged to share their completed  proposals with a health care organization that could benefit from the  proposal. For this fourth assignment, you will present the proposed  solution for your evidence-based intervention and outline the  implementation and evaluation plan.

Proposal

In  100-250 words, present a detailed explanation of your proposed solution  (new policy, process, procedure, or education that addresses the  problem or issue you identified for your project). Include rationale for  why you selected proposed solution. The proposed solution should be  based on the support indicated in the literature review.

Preparing an Implementation Plan

Develop an implementation plan (500-750 words). The elements that should be included in your plan are listed below:

  1. Strategies  for obtaining necessary approval(s) and securing support from your  organization’s leadership and fellow staff. If you are proposing a  change in current policy, process, or procedure, first describe the  current policy, process, or procedure as a baseline for comparison.
  2. Description  of implementation. (When and how will the change be integrated into the  current organizational structure, culture, and workflow? Who will be  responsible for initiating the change, educating staff, and overseeing  the implementation process?)
  3. Resources required for  implementation: stakeholders; assessment tools (questionnaires, surveys,  pretests and posttests to assess knowledge of participants at baseline  and after intervention); technology (technological or software needs);  funds (cost of educating staff, printing or producing educational  materials, gathering and analyzing data before, during, and following  implementation); and staff to initiate, oversee, and evaluate change.

Evaluation Plan

Prepare an evaluation plan (500-750 words) supported by your critical analysis of the literature.

  1. Discuss methods to evaluate the effectiveness of your proposed solution.
  2. Describe what your projected outcomes will be and what variables will be assessed.

Expert Solution Preview

Introduction:
This assignment requires you to present a proposed solution to a healthcare problem based on the literature review and develop an implementation plan and an evaluation plan. The proposed solution should be a new policy, process, procedure, or education that addresses the identified problem. In this answer, we will provide a sample response to each of the questions separately.

Answer to the Content:
Proposed Solution:
The proposed solution for the healthcare problem identified is to implement a standardized pain management protocol for patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) in the emergency department (ED). The rationale for selecting this proposed solution is based on the literature review, which revealed that inadequate pain management for patients with SCD in the ED is a common problem that results in increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Various studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of standardized pain management protocols in reducing pain and improving outcomes for patients with SCD.

Implementation Plan:
The implementation plan for the standardized pain management protocol for SCD patients in the ED will involve obtaining necessary approvals and support from the hospital administration and staff, educating the ED staff on the protocol, and integrating the protocol into the current organizational structure, culture, and workflow. The ED nurse manager will initiate the change and oversee the implementation process. The key resources required for implementation include stakeholders such as ED physicians, nurses, and patients, assessment tools such as pain scales and patient surveys, technology such as electronic medical records, and funds to cover the cost of educating staff, producing educational materials, and gathering and analyzing data.

Evaluation Plan:
The evaluation plan for the proposed solution will involve quantitatively and qualitatively assessing the effectiveness of the standardized pain management protocol. The methods of evaluating the effectiveness of the protocol will include pre and post-intervention assessments of patients’ pain scores and opioid usage, patient satisfaction surveys, and ED staff survey. The projected outcomes will be a reduction in patients’ pain scores, an increase in patient satisfaction, a decrease in the use of opioids, and an improvement in staff compliance with the standardized protocol. The variables that will be assessed include the number of patients with SCD seen in the ED, the proportion of patients receiving opioids, and the turnaround time for administering pain medications.
