Confidentiality, integrity, and availability or the CIA triad of security is introduced in this session. These three dimensions of security may often conflict. Confidentiality and integrity often limit availability. So, a system should provide only what is truly needed. This means that a security expert has to carefully analyze what is more important among these three dimensions of security in a system or application.

Please provide an example (and justification) where the confidentiality of a system is more important than the integrity or availability of that system in In a minimum of 250. Then provide an example where the integrity of a system is more important than the confidentiality or availability of that system. Finally, provide an example of a system where the availability of a system is more important than the confidentiality or integrity of that system. For example, you might say availability is more important than integrity and confidentiality in a cell telephone system since one must be able to reach their loved ones in an emergency. Someone else might argue confidentiality/privacy is more important in such a system.

2. In a minimum of 250 words, share you reasons for seeking to expand your knowledge as a Health Informatics & Information Management Professional or explain your reasons why you have decided to change careers and enroll in Health Informatics Administration program. Discuss your future career goals and aspirations in the profession.

Confidentiality, integrity, and availability or the CIA triad of security is introduced in this session Nursing Assignment Help

Introduction:

In the field of medical education, it is crucial to design and conduct assignments that challenge and engage college students in their learning. As a medical professor, my role involves creating assignments and examinations that evaluate student performance and provide feedback. In this particular content, we will explore the importance of the CIA triad of security, which encompasses confidentiality, integrity, and availability. These dimensions of security often interact and may pose conflicts in various systems and applications.

Answer to the question about the importance of confidentiality over integrity or availability in a system:

In certain situations, maintaining the confidentiality of a system may take precedence over its integrity or availability. An example of such a scenario can be seen in a medical research facility where confidentiality is of utmost importance. In this context, medical researchers often handle sensitive and personal patient data, clinical trial results, and experimental procedures. The confidentiality of the system ensures that this information is protected from unauthorized access or disclosure.

Justification:

The confidentiality of a medical research system is crucial due to several reasons. Firstly, patient privacy must be strictly maintained to comply with ethical standards and legal regulations such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in the United States. Patients trust researchers with their sensitive medical information, and any breach of confidentiality can result in severe consequences, including damage to the reputation of the research institution and legal penalties.

Secondly, maintaining confidentiality is essential for the advancement of medical research. Researchers often work on groundbreaking projects and studies that are in progress. Premature disclosure or unauthorized access to research findings can lead to a compromise in the novelty and potential impact of the research. This can affect the research institution’s ability to secure funding, collaborate with other researchers, and publish their findings in reputable journals.

Lastly, the confidentiality of a system promotes trust among patients and research participants. Individuals are more likely to participate in research studies and provide accurate and honest information if they are confident that their data will be handled with care and not used for unintended purposes. This trust is essential for the successful recruitment and retention of participants, ultimately leading to the advancement of medical science.

Answer to the question about the importance of integrity over confidentiality or availability in a system:

There are instances where the integrity of a system holds greater significance than its confidentiality or availability. One example can be found in the electronic health record (EHR) system used by healthcare providers. The integrity of this system is vital to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of patient health information.

Justification:

In a healthcare setting, maintaining the integrity of patient health information is crucial for providing safe and effective care. A compromised EHR system can lead to errors in medical decision-making, medication administration, and coordination of care. If the integrity of the system is compromised, there is a risk of patient harm, misdiagnosis, or ineffective treatment plans.

Furthermore, the integrity of the EHR system is essential for medical research, quality improvement initiatives, and public health monitoring. Researchers and policymakers rely on accurate and complete data to identify patterns, trends, and outcomes. The integrity of the system ensures that the collected data is reliable and can be used to drive evidence-based practices and policies.

While confidentiality protects patient privacy, the integrity of the system is crucial to ensure that patient data remains accurate and trustworthy throughout its lifecycle. This promotes patient safety, improves healthcare outcomes, and enables healthcare providers and researchers to make informed decisions based on reliable information.

Answer to the question about the importance of availability over confidentiality or integrity in a system:

There are instances where the availability of a system holds more importance than its confidentiality or integrity. One example is seen in telemedicine systems, where ensuring timely access to medical care is crucial in emergencies and remote patient monitoring.

Justification:

In a telemedicine system, the availability of the platform directly impacts patients’ ability to receive timely medical care, especially in emergency situations. For instance, in remote areas or during natural disasters, individuals may not have immediate access to physical medical facilities. In such cases, telemedicine platforms provide a lifeline for patients to connect with healthcare professionals and receive remote consultations, advice, and even emergency services. Ensuring the availability of these systems can be critical in potentially saving lives.

Moreover, in the context of remote patient monitoring, the availability of the system is essential for continuous monitoring of vital signs and health parameters. Patients with chronic conditions or those requiring post-operative care rely on these systems to transmit their health data to healthcare providers regularly. The uninterrupted availability of the system ensures that healthcare professionals can monitor and intervene promptly when necessary, preventing complications or deterioration in the patient’s health.

While confidentiality and integrity are important considerations, in certain healthcare contexts, prioritizing the availability of the system is crucial to ensure timely access to healthcare services and facilitate patient care in emergency situations.
