Nursing Assignment Help

Abstract:
This paper investigates the effect of Holistic Alternative Medicine (HAM) compared to the use of opioid narcotics in managing chronic pain in adult patients aged 30 to 70 years. The aim of this study is to determine whether HAM can provide better pain control within a 3-month period. Chronic pain is a significant clinical problem that affects a substantial number of individuals. The use of opioids for pain management has led to various complications and has raised concerns regarding addiction and overdose. Therefore, exploring alternative methods, such as HAM, is essential to provide effective pain control without the potential risks associated with opioid narcotics. This study utilizes the Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) model to guide the research process. The EBP model encompasses five steps: asking a clinical question, searching for evidence, appraising the evidence, applying the evidence, and evaluating the outcomes. Each of these steps will be applied to this project to ensure the reliability and validity of the findings. Overall, this study strives to contribute to the existing knowledge on pain management and offer evidence-based recommendations for healthcare professionals.

Introduction:
Chronic pain is a prevalent issue among adults aged 30 to 70 years, causing a significant impact on their quality of life and overall well-being. As a pain management registered nurse in an outpatient facility, I have witnessed the challenges faced by individuals seeking effective pain control. The use of opioid narcotics has been a common approach, but it has raised numerous concerns due to its potential adverse effects and addictive properties. Therefore, exploring alternative methods that can alleviate chronic pain is crucial.

The aim of this project is to investigate the effect of Holistic Alternative Medicine (HAM) on pain control compared to the use of opioid narcotics in adult patients with chronic pain. HAM encompasses various modalities such as acupuncture, massage therapy, herbal treatments, and mind-body interventions. These approaches target the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of an individual to promote holistic healing.

By examining the effectiveness of HAM in managing chronic pain, we hope to provide healthcare professionals with evidence-based recommendations for pain management. This study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge, bridging the gap between conventional medicine and holistic approaches. By considering patient preferences and promoting patient-centered care, healthcare providers can offer alternative options for pain control, ensuring optimal outcomes and improving the overall quality of life for individuals suffering from chronic pain.

EBP Model:
To guide this project, we will utilize the Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) model. This model encompasses five steps: asking a clinical question, searching for evidence, appraising the evidence, applying the evidence, and evaluating the outcomes.

In the first step, we have formulated the clinical question based on the PICOT format. This helps ensure that the research question is focused and specific, allowing for a systematic approach to find relevant evidence.

The second step involves conducting a comprehensive literature search to find studies and scholarly articles that address the research question. The sources will be obtained from reputable databases such as PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library to ensure the inclusion of high-quality evidence.

Next, the identified evidence will be critically appraised to evaluate its reliability and validity. This step involves assessing the study design, methodology, and statistical analysis to determine the level of evidence and the risk of bias.

Following the appraisal, the evidence will be applied to the specific patient population and clinical setting under study. This step involves considering factors such as patient preferences, feasibility, and availability of resources to implement the identified interventions.

Lastly, the outcomes of the implemented interventions will be evaluated to determine their effectiveness in pain control compared to the use of opioid narcotics. This evaluation will provide insights into the benefits and potential limitations of HAM, contributing to evidence-based recommendations for healthcare professionals.

By following this EBP model, we aim to ensure the validity and reliability of our study findings and promote evidence-based practice in pain management.
